Our Grantees Youth Garden Project

The Youth Garden Project (YGP) is a garden-based education and community gardening nonprofit in the heart of Moab, Utah. YGP’s mission is to cultivate healthy children, families, and community through educational programs and connecting people with food from seed to table.

The Youth Garden Project (YGP) began in March of 1996 with one program designed to offer youth with court-ordered community service hours an opportunity to serve their hours in an educational and nurturing environment. The garden was in our founder’s backyard and served about a dozen youth in its first year.

Thanks to our partnerships and dedicated supporters, YGP has “grown” so much since we were founded! Today YGP sits on one and a half acres of land next to Grand County High School, serves around 1,000 youth each year across all age groups, and grows over 3,000 pounds of produce each season. YGP also operates community garden plots across Grand County to provide land access for local gardeners.

Currently, YGP’s main campus is home to 70+ rows, dozens of fruit trees, an herb garden, native perennials, and a flock of chickens. We host in-school and out of school youth programming, including summer camps, field trips, and after school clubs, as well as community programs including seed swaps, workshops, festivals, volunteer events, and more.
