Jumpstart Your School Garden!

At Big Green we believe growing food changes lives! Implementing a garden and related programs in schools provides students with experiences that connect them to nature, fresh food, and an enriching learning environment.

What is Jumpstart?

Big Green offers Jumpstart Grants of $2000 to schools to implement or expand on-site garden programming as stand-alone funding opportunities. Select schools may be eligible for a Big Green Jumpstart Grant and a Big Green Learning Garden. Learning Gardens are school garden kits with Big Green’s signature raised bed planters and the related materials to easily build or expand a food-growing garden and outdoor classroom.

Who Can Apply?

In order to participate, schools must meet the following criteria:

  • Serve students meeting 65% FRL or another metric of economic disadvantage.
  • Have a plan of action that ensures youth will consistently and strategically use Learning Gardens and/or Jumpstart Grant Funds as a regular part of the school day.
  • Have the full support of the school administration and a multi-member team dedicated to the integration of the Learning Garden into the goals, structures and overall culture of the school.

Jumpstart Grants and Learning Gardens are available in select cities with opportunities currently in Las Vegas, Austin, and Miami.
