Happily Natural Day transforms the built environment for food justice and climate resiliency. We steward gardens and farms across Central Virginia and train beginner farmers in how to design, install and steward small farms across Central Virginia. Through our training program, we also increase access to land across Central Virginia. Happily Natural Day is a movement rooted in love, land, and liberation. At its heart is our commitment to building wholeness in Black and Brown communities through holistic health, cultural awareness, and deep structural change.
And that commitment is grounded—literally—in Sankofa Community Orchard, our flagship five-acre food-justice and climate-resilient green space nestled in Richmond’s Southside. With over 120 fruit trees and fruiting shrubs planted in formerly under-resourced land, Sankofa addresses both the shortage of vibrant greenspace and the lack of fresh-food access in this historically annexed neighborhood.
Through Sankofa we demonstrate what it means to own, cultivate, and transform land—not only for produce, but for healing, workforce development, agro-ecology, and community power
