Our Grantees Center for Urban Transformation – Chicago

The Center for Urban Transformation (CUT) was established to research and apply, where possible, ecologically sound practices to our projects and in our partnerships. The CUT is informed by the principles of environmental, economic, and social justice and the rights of humans and all of our relations.

The CUT produces the Roots Watering Hole podcast with a monthly food literacy episode that includes information relevant to home and community gardeners. We distributed seeds and seedlings to several organizations and individuals with a focus on crops from the African Diaspora, including multiple varieties of collards, okra, peas, and beans. The CUT in partnership with the Center for Humans and Nature a project in their Questions for a Resilient Future Series. The CUT, in partnership with two local bookstores, initiated a pilot program entitled Narratives and Nourishment. The program invites local authors to read from a book they have written,We are planning to launch and we also provide nutrition education, cooking demos, etc, during the event. The project is seeking funding to support a permanent program. We are planning to launch a project entitled Earth Medicines in 2026.
