Why fund the Big Green DAO? The American food system is broken, and traditional philanthropy hasn’t addressed its root causes. Big Green DAO is changing that with blockchain-powered, community-led funding to build a fairer food system for everyone.

  • Communities Lead

Your donations don’t always reach smaller organizations that can make big impacts in their communities—the DAO is different. Grants are streamlined and direct, ensuring nonprofits get the resources they need to drive real change in their communities.

  • Blockchain Powers Change

Your donation fuels cutting-edge tech that ensures transparency and efficiency. From grassroots communities to blockchain innovation, the DAO is building future-focused tools that change the face of traditional philanthropic models.

  • Give with Confidence

Donating to the DAO is direct impact for organizations serving on the frontlines. 100% of your donation supports grassroots food gardening organizations through innovative blockchain tech or life-changing grants, YOU decide!

Minimal power structures exist where minorities are involved. If a donor truly wants to empower the next generation of individuals, the DAO is giving them a mechanical way to do so.

Donation FAQs

  • Yes! We accept all major cryptocurrencies through our donation platform, The Giving Block. Like a standard donation, your crypto contribution may be tax deductible. Read more below for commonly asked crypto tax write-off questions. As always, please consult with a tax professional.

  • No! Cryptocurrencies are treated as property by the IRS, so donors are not required to cash out their holdings before donating. This keeps the process simpler and could reduce administrative fees for the nonprofit.

  • In the U.S., if you donate cryptocurrency directly to a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, you may be able to deduct the full fair market value of the asset on your taxes (if held for over a year). This is often limited to 30% of your adjusted gross income (AGI), but excess donations can be carried forward for up to five years.

  • Over a year. If the crypto has been held for less than a year, the deductible amount is limited to the asset’s cost basis (the original purchase price), rather than its appreciated value.

  • Donors who claim a deduction must file IRS Form 8283 for donations valued over $500. For donations over $5,000, an additional qualified appraisal might be required, though crypto donations have unique appraisal regulations that could vary.

  • No, by donating crypto directly, donors can avoid paying capital gains tax on any appreciation. This can be especially beneficial if the crypto has significantly increased in value since it was purchased.

  • For international donations, it’s best to consult specific tax rules, as tax treatment for crypto donations varies by country.
