Our Grantees Darnall Charter School’s Garden and Cooking Classrooms

Our mission is to provide our students the opportunity to learn how to grow their own food from seeds and to teach them how to use this food to make simple nutritious meals to help foster healthy eating habits.

We serve 475 students. Students in TK-5th receive weekly lessons in either garden or cooking and our 6-8th receive it as an elective. We grow over 1,000lbs of food annually that we either use in our cooking lessons or give away to our families in Harvest Stands. We also run a community program called Give to Grow where we give our families everything they need to grow food at home including garden beds, seedlings, soil, and tools. We have worked with 120 different families over the last 3 years on this project.
