Seeding

Kale has large stalks and leaves, requiring ample space and rich fertile soil to grow well. When planting kale, make one hole in the soil in the center of your grow bag, ½”  deep, and place 2-3 seeds in the hole to ensure germination. Once sprouted, thin seedlings to only 1 per grow bag.

Growing Conditions

  • 2-3 Seeds
    1/2” deep

  • 45°F – 80°F
    Cool/Warm

  • 6-8 Hours
    Full Sun to Partial Shade

  • 55 Days
    to Harvest

Harvest

Snap or snip mature leaves from the bottom of the stalk up as they attain 5-10”, allowing newer leaves to continue growing at the top section of the plant. Harvest up to ⅓ of the leaves on the plant at a time.

Garden Tips

Kale is a cold-hardy superfood that thrives in cooler temperatures and even sweetens after a frost. Unlike many leafy greens, kale has a taproot system that allows it to access nutrients and water deep within the soil, making it more resilient and nutrient dense.
