Seeding

Beets require a moderate amount of space to grow. To plant beets in your grow bag, make four evenly spaced holes in a square formation. Place 2 seeds in each hole, about ½” deep.  Lightly cover the seeds with soil and water. Once the seedlings have sprouted, thin them to 1 strong plant per hole.

Harvest

Pull roots when they are 1 ½’ – 2” in diameter. Beet greens can also be eaten, and a few leaves can be harvested from plants while they are growing.

Garden Tips

Beets are a multi-functional plant with a range of uses. You can harvest both the nutritious leaves and sweet earthy roots for cooking, but the plant’s root can also be used as a natural dye. When working with beets, be mindful of their strong color properties to avoid staining surfaces, hands, or clothing.
