Give your school garden a Big Green Jumpstart.

Big Green is thrilled to announce a school garden grant supporting our collective work to connect students to the life-changing power of growing food. This $2,000 grant opportunity is available for up to 50 schools doing incredible school garden and outdoor education work in Austin and the surrounding communities. 

Who can apply

Applicants who meet the all of the following criteria are eligible for this grant opportunity:

    • If you work in a school in Central Texas (Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties) and have the support of your building principal or administrator.
    • You believe in outdoor education and have plans to use an existing or new school garden to advance your school’s mission and goals.
    • Your school serves students a population with a demonstrated financial need. (e.g. above 65% (FRL), or other metric to represent financial need.)
    • Your school is able to receive and utilize grant funds according to Big Green and school or district guidelines and provide a brief summary of spending and impacts.
    • You are a non-profit school or a school working with a non-profit fiscal agent directly affiliated with the school or district.(e.g. friends of ABC School, PTO/PTA, ABC District Foundation).

Grant Calendar

Here are important dates and deadlines for this Jumpstart Austin grant opportunity.

  • February 21 – March 11, 2022: Applications invited
  • March 21, 2022: Award letters sent
  • April 11, 2022: Fund disbursement begins
  • May 4, 2022: Live webinar for grantees, recap and recording
  • TBD SY ’22-’23: Ongoing live webinar sessions
  • May 19, 2023: End of grant cycle, final report due.
