Greetings Memphis Community Members, Teachers, and Gardeners!
As we continue to adjust to life during COVID-19, many of us are looking to grow our own food! In general, gardening is a relaxing, therapeutic, and empowering activity. To plant, for instance, a cucumber seed, watch that cucumber plant create its winding vines and beautiful leaves, witness that plant create flowers, and then observe those flowers turn into tiny cucumbers that grow large enough to harvest and enjoy– few other experiences are as satisfying as this!
At Big Green Memphis, we are committed to working with local schools to engage outdoor classrooms that connect the community to real food access and resources. “Real food” simply means food that is nourishing, whole, and as local as possible. Since all Memphis schools are closed at the moment, we would like to use this opportunity to provide resources to the entire Memphis and Mid-South community. The resources listed below cover where to get supplies for gardening that are locally owned.
