Big Green is coming to you through the air waves this week as we launch the first episode of our Chicago Podcast!!! Here in the Windy City, there are over 400 teachers and 110,000 students growing and eating delicious food from their school’s Learning Garden. That is a lot of people doing some incredible work in the garden!
Through the podcast, we hope to connect you to the voices of the teachers, students, and community members doing that work all throughout the city. The podcast will also serve as a resource for anyone looking to gain hands-on gardening skills, learn about the impact of local community gardens, or potentially bring a Big Green Learning Garden to your school.
The first episode is about 15 minutes long (an easy listen on your commute to work) and you’ll hear the voices of students from Portage Park, Gunsaulus, and Gillespie Elementary.
You’ll also hear from teachers Colleen Harrah (Chase Elementary), Katina Makris (Ward Elementary), and Lisa Ousley-Taylor (South Shore International High School) about how they see the garden impacting their school community.
You can listen to the podcast by clicking here or by downloading the SoundCloud App on your phone and searching “Student and Teacher Voices from the Garden.” And if you have a story you’d like to share or an idea for a future episode, don’t hesitate to reach out to your garden educator! Happy listening!
